The 7th World Congress a Great Success!

The Seventh Extensive Reading World Congress, held at Hokusei Gakuin University in Sapporo, Japan garnered the greatest number of participants of any of the World Congresses thus far. Almost 400 participants, including about 200 from overseas, mainly from China, Korea and Mongolia attended the event. The talks of all three plenary speakers, David Beglar, Akio Furukawa and Yoko Yamashita were well received. The Gala Banquet, attended by most of the participants was an exciting event with an Ainu musical group that encouraged audience participation.

At the end of Saturday’s plenary by Akio Furukawa, he was presented with “The John A Milne Innovation Award for lifetime achievement in the service of Extensive Reading” by Thomas Robb, Chair of the Extensive Reading Foundation.
