No doubt reading is crucial to the functionality of our society - our institions and practices are built upon the written word. Reading is also one of our most sophisticated mental functions and the one which contributes to the uniqueness of human mind. However, usefulness and scientific issues apart, reading can be also a sort of self-indulgent practice.
The 43rd IATEFL Annual Conference this year happens in Cardiff, Wales and this is where the ERF is also going to announce the 2009 Awards Finalists.
Just a quick note to let you know that the IATEFL Literature, Media and Cultural Studies Special Interest Group hosted a fielded discussion on extensive reading and graded readers at the end of October with Philip Prowse as the special guest.
